Great place for an escape from American dining. Walking in is like going to a restaurant in Europe. The menu is tailored for foodies, not the normal boring American palate. I can't think of anywhere else in St Pete to get steak tar-tare, let alone a fabulous tasting version like Alma has. They also have great salmon carpaccio, chorizo and chick pea empanadas, and piri piri shrimp. They also have a great craft beer selection with 4 or 5 on tap plus a very good wine list. Highly recommend it when you are looking for something different or if you just love food.
The Saturday bloody mary brunch, which is identical to Sunday, is a delightful meal with a bloody mary bar at a fun place that deserves all the praise. The service is unmatched and the quality of food -- and drink -- is superior.
Stopped in after a musical (they are big advertisers in the playbooks), so it had to have been around 10 pm. The restaurant (we ate inside) was dimly lit, almost like walking into a grotto, but seemed warmed and inviting. Since they're were only a few customers, mostly at the bar, the service was fantastic. Our server was upbeat, talkative, and very much in the know when it came to beers. By the way, their beer list has a nice selection of microbrews - 50 in all. So atmosphere and drinks and service get an A+. The food, however, was more Americanized for tapas than I would have liked. Highlights were the Fresh Cheese & Fruit plate, and the duck quesadillas. Lowlights were the albondigas (tasted more like Italian meatballs in a sweet tomato sauce) and the Pineapple Ceviche (fresh and herbacious but lacking real depth and pineapple flavor). I will come back, though, because it was a fun place to stop in for a drink and few appetizers.
